Eco-Boho: Virtual Reality Zoos

Virtual zoos would make the confinement and isolation of animals obsolete.  I love this idea!  virtual reality zoos.  A place where people could be completely immersed into natural environments via technology.  Imagine experiencing the rainforest animals of Costa Rica through all five senses.  Museums and entertainment venues could provide unique showcases where, through sight, sound, touch and smell, one could actually view animals ineracting with each other in their natural environments.  I believe that it would enhance the experience for humans and allow us to understand that animals are not here to fulfill our needs and wants.  They exist as fellow earthlings.  With climate change and an overall need for the appreciation of animals, this is an idea whose time has come.

 

Remodeled Airstream - "The Love Sub" - At Burning Man

Amazing!  I just LOVE The Love Sub!  Wilks Wilkinson and Marshall Clark remodeled this vintage Airstream into a work of art with neon, red walls and the ability to be self-propelled.  That's right, no towing necessary.  These photos were taken at Burning Man.  More about the three-year project here.

Eco-Boho: Pretty Glowing Tree Pods Help Air Quality

To help fight air pollution while recycling, designers Mario Caceres and Cristian Canonico have designed a set of beautiful air-filtering trees for the SHIFTboston urban intervention contest. Called TREEPODS, they would help filter the C02 and would be powered by the sun and children playing on seesaws.  This would use the humidity swing process developed by Columbia University which captures C02 and releases oxygen.  Constructed entirely out of recycled plastic bottles, the treepods would also provide shade, lovely lighting, and shelter for birds.  For more information: Inhabitat and dvice.

Punk Houses

The New York Times and The Dallas News gave favorable reviews to a book about something I've never heard of - punk houses.  What stuck with me was anarchy as a living place and the feeling that a home is an entity deserving of a name.  “Punk House: Interiors in Anarchy" was released in 2008 by artist Abby Banks.  Creative energy and recycling abounds in punk residences which are commonly treehouses...

Bohemian Grove

If you are interested in learning about the unusual practices of the powerful men making up The Bohemian Club, this article in Vanity Fair is interesting.  The history of the club and it's "playtime" at The Grove is fodder for conspiracy theorists, but the real issue of this article is the concern that the club is logging 250 million year old redwood trees.  This family of trees was around when there were T-Rex's roaming the world.  The Bohemian Club has cut down an estimated 11,000 beautiful trees according to Vanity Fair.  Interesting article if you have the time to read it.

REcyCLed Sweaters

Creating items out of recycled sweaters came to our attention while researching artist, Kat O'Sullivan. Decoupage it!

Decoupage is absolute FUN and eco-friendly when you re-use materials.  We embellish foundations that have slick, flat surfaces made of wood, glass, metal and heavy-duty cardboard (i.e. a cigar box.)  The best product we've found is Mod Podge.  You may find it online or any art/craft supply store.  Mod Podge comes in a variety of types such as glossy or matte.  For complete instructions visit re-nest.
