2011 SXSW FEST - NEW MUSIC TALENT IN AUSTIN

Attending the 2011 SXSW Festival featuring the newest in music, film & interactive?  

Not sure which music acts to check out?  Afterall, there are so many and their names aren't recognizable. YET :)

For an AMAZING live stream mix of musicians playing at this years SXSW festival in Austin, TX go to JB's SXSW Fest Select at MIX 94.7 where you may hear many selections from wonderful new artists.  There is a brief furniture commercial, then a mix player offers an eclectic variety of unique artists.  My favorites so far are Andrew Allen, Reptar, and Kina Grannis.  It may take a while to load, but it's well worth the wait.

Guitars are just sooooo cool!

Whether you play one or creatively embellish one, guitars are just so cool!  Seek them out on the streets of Austin or google "art guitars," "mosaic guitars" or "painted guitars" for inspiration.  Buy one at a garage sale or thrift shop and create the heck out of it!  Use spray paint as a primer to cover the whole guitar, then use paint pens or acrylic paints.  Add some glitter, leather, silk flowers, beads or textiles for a whimsical twist.  When making a mosaic guitar, first seal the wood because the water in the grout will warp the wood causing the grout to crack when it dries. Happy creating!

The Amazing Imogen Heap

Incredible musician and unique boho girl,  Imogen Heap , is presently on tour.  We caught up with her in Dallas, Texas.  If you can catch her show, it is a must.  Her creation, "Hide & Seek," is a favorite of ours.  She ends her show by saying, in her adorable British accent, something like, "this is the part of the show where I leave and you clap, and I pretend that I'm not coming back until you clap more, and then I come back.  Instead, how 'bout I stay and play another tune?"  Imogen is absolutely amazing...
